Athens in one day. That's 30 thousand steps, but s Athens in one day. That's 30 thousand steps, but so worth it. Never expected to like this city, but I do. The usual touristy stuff, Acropolis & dinner. Surprisingly emotional day.
Sunrise somewhere over northern Europe this mornin Sunrise somewhere over northern Europe this morning - and sunset next to Trizonia, where our home currently resides. It was a happy reunion with our beloved Aina after three weeks apart, especially because this time she hadn't tried any of her self destruction tricks!
Sometimes your timing is just right! We're general Sometimes your timing is just right! We're generally not early birds, and probably miss more than we know, but every once in a while even a late bird might catch a worm. Or a swordfish!
Yesterday morning we dinghied over to the mainland for some groceries, and docked just after a fishing boat had arrived. A lucky day for them, they'd caught a big swordfish. And for us - that's dinner sorted! It was delicious!

If you want to see a different kind of Greece (of If you want to see a different kind of Greece (of which there are many!) the Messolonghi surroundings are definitely a place to visit. Vast salt pans and lagoons full of birdlife - egrets, herons, and of course, the huge flock of flamingos (this time we only spotted them from a car window on a taxi ride from Lidl) - fishermen's houses built on stilts, and even people swimming on shipping lanes... 😄
Our gypsie camp is on the move. We'll keep the sun shade on until we catch some wind!
Lately we've been enjoying the very hot summer in Lately we've been enjoying the very hot summer in the Ionian. Did I mention it's been hot? Some days it's been the survival mode kind of hot, but mostly just okay hot.
🌡
The past week or so (maybe more) we've spent in Messolonghi, and what a good time it's been! This is just a lovely town. We spent the whole winter here a few years ago and have met some old acquaintances - the best part of cruising life! - but the place has turned out to be a very lively spot in the summer, too. Not many foreign tourists, it's a very Greek town. So far we've seen live concerts, a sailing race (the Ionian Sailing Week), lots of transient boats to/from the Corinth canal, and our favourite: the biweekly farmer's market, a vegetable paradise.
⛵️
This summer is not about building miles or stretching our comfort zones. We've had those times, and may well have in the future, but now we're just happy to take it easy. The journey continues tomorrow.
What do you do when you want pizza, but it's too h What do you do when you want pizza, but it's too hot indoors to use the oven, and too windy outdoors for barbecue & pizza stone experiments? You make frying pan pizza! I baked one side of the crust first, then flipped over, added toppings and cooked under a lid for a few minutes. Excellent!

🙃
This was definitely a fun project, compared to a lot of (in fact most 😅) - boat projects, and another proof that with a bit of trial and error, you can do just about anything you set your mind into. This wasn't my first attempt at tiling, though - I made a bathroom floor, a sauna floor and a kitchen backsplash during our home owner days - but first time with natural stones. I bet this countertop is a PA to keep clean, but at least it's very small!

  • on Sailboat bottom renovation | Part 1: SandingThanks for quick reply, my thoughts are same, start using the chemical paint removal till we reach a surface that we can paint over.
  • on Sailboat bottom renovation | Part 1: SandingHi Cornel, we're really not experts on this, but you'll probably find the original gelcoat under the layers of antifouling if you remove everything. On our boat the gelcoat had been peeled off completely, probably because of blisters. You might be fine painting new antifouling on top of old if you can find out what's been used before. Or keep removing layers until you find one that sticks, and paint over that. If you need to remove all paint, I think using chemical paint removal might be the best way.
  • on Sailboat bottom renovation | Part 1: SandingHi there, We bought a boat this summer, and it looks like we need to strip all antifouling layers next season. Here and there, some patches of antifouling are falling off in places reveling some darker paint/surface underneath. The main question is how do we know if the boat has been epoxied before? I am thinking that at some point someone used a different antifouling and now it's just falling off. Cheers, Cornel / Finland
  • on Winter in Messolonghi – Boat Projects and BBQHi Mario, we're thinking of staying in the Aegean side next winter. But Messolonghi is a very nice town and there's a small but friendly liveaboard community in the marina, definitely recommend because of that. Not sure how the marina business is nowadays, though, but they've been pretty quick to answer emails in the past. It was very affordable when we were there, and the facilities were fine. https://www.messolonghimarina.com/
